Alighieri

I first stumbled on Alighieri without context. I wanted to reach into my computer screen and touch each piece: the richly carved textures contrasted with the brilliant gold are like a secret, not-uncovered-'til-now relic.

Turns out that my first impression wasn't too far off. London-based designer Rosh Mahtani graduated from Oxford University in 2012, armed with degrees in French and Italian literature and "a vehement obsession with the idea of melancholy and imperfection."

I love that Rosh has no formal training in jewelry-making. Instead, she has a keen love of literature and a sharp eye for design. These skills make ideal bedfellows for Alighieri, a collection of modern heirlooms.

See a sampling of these unique pieces below. Each is inspired by Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy,’ and each piece corresponds to one of the poet’s 100 poems.
